The Joint British-Canadian Archeological Expedition at the ancient site of Jericho in Jordan. From top of tell (mound), looking north, mud village (Ein Es Sultan) of Arab refugees stretches away to mountains. These mud huts and walls are quite like those found in the tell and some of the ancient cities must have looked like this. The Canadian section of the expedition is being sponsored by The Globe and Mail. The women from the nearby refugee camps carry jars of water on their heads in the age-old fashion but the United Nations Relief and Works Administration truck lends a more modern note. And the camel seen on the road at rear has his own method of getting drink.
